Spirent Releases Latest User Experience Rankings of 4G Mobile Data Services Reliability in U.K.
Sunnyvale, Calif. – March 27, 2015 – Spirent Communications, the leader in user experience solutions for evaluating any IP-based device or service, has released updated user experience rankings of 4G mobile data services in the U.K. The rankings are part of an on-going study commissioned by Telefonica O2 and are based on 180,000 data tests on the EE, O2, Three and Vodafone networks. The study focused on data services reliability and includes measurements from 7 new cities collected in February 2015 and previous measurements from 13 cities collected from November 2014 to January 2015 as part of an earlier study.
To compile the rankings, each mobile network was evaluated across 4G data service reliability categories including web browsing, file download, file upload and overall data service reliability (an aggregate of the other categories). All measurements were performed using Spirent’s user experience analytics systems and iPhone 5c devices purchased at retail stores by Spirent.
The 4G mobile data service reliability results were as follows:
O2 ranked first of four networks for overall data service reliability at 98.9%, ranking joint first in 17 of 20 cities,
O2 ranked first of four networks for overall web browsing reliability at 99.0%, ranking first or joint first in 18 of 20 cities,
O2 ranked second of four networks for overall file download reliability at 98.4%, ranking joint first in 16 of 20 cities,
O2 ranked joint first of four networks for overall file upload reliability at 99.2%, ranking joint first in 15 of 20 cities.
All measurements in the study were performed with Spirent’s Datum system for measuring and analyzing the user experience of data services. New measurements of user experience were performed in the following 7 cities: Belfast, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Leicester, and Plymouth. In addition to the new measurements, the study included previously collected data from the following 13 cities: Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Newcastle, Sunderland, Sheffield, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham.
