ADTRAN and Spirent Demonstrate the Future of User-Driven Services at MEF16
Baltimore, MD – November 7, 2016 – ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ: ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation open networking solutions, and Spirent Communications, a leading provider of intelligent service assurance solutions, today will demonstrate zero-touch, end-user initiated on-boarding of cloud-based 10G Carrier Ethernet (CE) services over SDN-controlled NG-PON2 networks as part of the MEF16 Proof of Concept (PoC) Showcase. The MEF16 PoC highlights a select group of innovative technologies that address critical, leading edge service provider needs. The ADTRAN-Spirent PoC fully automates the on-boarding process for 10G services, allowing new or upgraded services to be activated within minutes of a customer request. In addition, the PoC demonstrates how the network can automatically verify newly provisioned services and isolate service-impacting issues as a means to improve end-user quality of experience and ensure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met.
“Service providers recognize the importance of shifting to a more customer-centric model where end users can request new or upgraded services and be assured high-quality services will be activated within minutes,” said Mano Nachum, senior director of product line management at Spirent. “Lumos enables this customer-centric shift by allowing service assurance to be deployed as part of a fully automated on-boarding process. Demonstrating this capability with ADTRAN Mosaic software-defined access (SD-Access) services architecture at the MEF showcase exemplifies the ability of Lumos to integrate with leading suppliers of next generation technology to bring the value of virtualization to the market.”
The PoC demonstrates the complete on-boarding process from customer request to successful activation, beginning with service creation and bandwidth allocation via the ADTRAN Mosaic™ Cloud Platform. The Mosaic Cloud Platform is the foundation for the PoC demo, integrating open-source SDN control and orchestration layers to SDN-enabled network elements and a Service Assurance Controller. Spirent’s Lumos Service Assurance Controller configures Virtual Test Functions for provisioning verification and SLA monitoring, controlling active TCP, IP and Ethernet tests and managing test result data. The PoC is deployed in a compact SDN-controlled equipment pod consisting of x86 servers, a leaf/spine fabric switch and ADTRAN OLT, ONT and residential gateway equipment.
“The approach to services creation and activation has changed. Service providers are transitioning to a user-driven service model allowing them to operate at web-scale,” said Robert Conger, AVP of cloud and portfolio strategy at ADTRAN. “Open, programmable and scalable SD-Access architectures integrated with innovative cloud-based applications such as Spirent’s Service Assurance Controller, Lumos, allows service providers to support rapid service creation and delivery while significantly reducing the cost of subscriber acquisition and maintenance.”
