"Cloud-First" Approach for Telcos

Cloud First ApproachTelecommunication domain is going through radical transition towards a different way of building networks, getting closer to what the IT domain has been doing since its inception, providing highly scalable network services on-demand.

In order to move up the value chain, network operators are transforming into indirect cloud providers. This transformation brings the known challenges of moving away from dedicated hardware-based appliances to software-based artifacts. How to make sure the underlying infrastructure will be able to meet the demand – higher bandwidth, lower latency and dynamic application workloads – all the while reducing CAPEX and OPEX.

The same transformation highlights unknown challenges such as moving network operators’ infrastructure towards multi-site cloud-based data centers, future-proofed to handle microservices architectures, cloud-native applications – all on top of commodity hardware.

Build Better Telco Clouds

The Industry Specification Group (ISG) within ETSI organization has defined an architecture for developing virtualized network infrastructure and adapting network functions to the specific cloud environment. This will help traditional network operators move from monolithic hardware appliances towards cloud-based distributed infrastructures, whether it be NFV or 5G rollouts.

 Cloud First Approach

To help accelerate this process, Spirent CloudSure was designed to benchmark and validate performance, allowing service providers to confidently rollout NFV deployments and reap the benefits of service flexibility and agility, without sacrificing performance. All it takes is to validate your system for a few use cases:

  1. Ensure infrastructure performance: Evaluate Cloud infrastructure performance as per ETSI TST-001 standard using methodologies measuring performance in terms of networking, compute, and storage.
  2. Validate MANO-readiness: As per ETSI TST-007 standard-defined methodologies for onboarding, instantiating, termination and tear down of VNFs.

Customize test scenarios further to address key cloud performance use cases, such as comparing cloud performance, cloud workload migration, and infrastructure capacity planning.

Learn about best practices for accelerating cloud migrations and be on your way to a successful “cloud-first” journey.
