Spirent’s CMO Jeff Schmitz talks SDN/NVF with SDNCentral—A Feature Interview

With the emergence of software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV), networks are becoming more agile and innovative than ever before. From service providers to equipment vendors to standards bodies, SDN and NFV is an exciting time. However along with any new technology initiative; comes a certain amount of uncertainty.

One significant change in the plumbing is the shift from hardware-only implementations to a combination of hardware and software. As such a certain amount of fundamental testing must be revisited. Do MPLS rules and policies still behave as expected? How do nodes handle line rate traffic? What happens under extreme load conditions?

Recently, SDNCentral’s Roy Chua sat down with Spirent’s CMO Jeffery Schmitz to discuss the SDN and NFV landscape. Specifically, how testing can provide the predictability and assurance necessary for any SDN and NFV rollout.
