A major telecoms carrier came to us with a requirement to evaluate geo-location performance of several IoT devices. The required testing ranged from fundamental GNSS tests, communication of position information through LoRa/GSM, to evaluating battery life when the device is tracking movement and transmitting it to the server.
The customer chose to engage our professional services team for two key reasons: firstly, the variety of tests they needed to carry out would have required a very large investment in test equipment; secondly, the nature of the tests and the combination of parameters involved necessitated a particularly high level of expertise.
We were able to offer the customer a full spectrum of GNSS tests, including:
On top of this, we were able to configure the device to report on its position at a variety of intervals, with different trigger points, and using different communications media. We utilised a power supply / analyser to calculate the effects of the tracking action and the transmission of information on battery performance, a simulation suite to generate the range of required signals, and an interference generator to measure the impact of RFI.
The test results helped them understand the performance of the devices better, before deployment on their network.
