Spirent To Spotlight Network Automation Enablement at MEF18

MEF18, LOS ANGELES - OCTOBER 30, 2018 – Spirent Communications plc (LSE:SPT), the trusted provider of test, measurement, assurance and analytics solutions for next-generation networks, today announced that it will showcase network automation enablement advancements at the MEF18 global networking event in Los Angeles, CA, from October 30 and 31, 2018. This includes a key role in a breakthrough Proof of Concept that will demonstrate how service providers can automate intercarrier services connections, supported by an unprecedented ability to validate the customer’s end-to-end experience before activating new services.

Spirent, a gold sponsor of MEF18, will also lead discussions on automation and network transformation in multiple panel sessions, sharing insights fromreal-world use cases.

The communications industry is undergoing a period of radical business transformation brought about by changing service provider economics and a range of technological advances from virtualization to open-source automation. Enterprise services are an important area of growth for service providers but they are fraught with costly and error-prone manual processes. Spirent is helping service providers achieve quick automation wins in their legacy physical and early-stage virtual networks, providing immediate time to market, cost and quality benefits, and laying a foundation for more extensive automation as virtualization deployments mature.

“Service providers are envisioning a future where they can activate new enterprise services in minutes and be sure the service will perform as expected,” said Spirent General Manager of Lifecycle Service Assurance, Dave Stehlin. “At MEF18, we’re showing how our lifecycle service assurance solutions can be rapidly integrated into today’s networks to help make this vision a reality. By completely automating end-to-end validation of services during activation, we’re significantly accelerating turn-up time and reducing costs, all while assuring the customer’s quality expectations are met.”

MEF 3.0 Proof of Concept

As part of the MEF 3.0 PoC, “Fulfilment and Activation of an Intercontinental MEF 3.0 Service Spanning Four Operators,” Spirent is showcasing how cloud-native service assurance enables rapid, cost-effective network automation deployments. The MEF 3.0 PoC demonstrates how service providers can completely automate one of the most complex network functions - intercarrier connectivity. Newly activated intercarrier services are automatically validated across carrier networks and any issues are isolated. This assures delivery of the required end-to-end performance and an excellent service experience. Because the validation requires no human intervention and uses software-based virtual test agents and open interfaces, services can be rapidly configured and deployed, enabling providers to activate new services in minutes instead of weeks or months, and all at a reduced cost.

Spirent has a unique view of the transformation challenges the industry faces, resulting from its close work with a range of operators in the midst of network automation deployments. At MEF18, Spirent will speak on automation and network transformation via its participation in two important panel sessions scheduled at the event:

  • The Journey to Inter-Carrier Service Automation - Beginning with Service Fulfillment & Activation Jay Stewart: Principal Product Manager for Service Assurance, SpirentTuesday, October 30: 3:20 PM- 4:05 PM

  • Where Are You on the Road to Network Transformation? Dave Stehlin: General Manager, Lifecycle Service Assurance, SpirentWednesday, October 31: 12:25 PM - 1:10 PM
