Testing determines the best migration path when transitioning to IP.
Spirent’s Voice over IP testing enables service providers and equipment manufacturers to test the migration from legacy to converged networks—including the triple play of voice, video and data-- and maintain the networks once deployed.
We begin with VoIP tests, including conformance, functional, and performance testing, in R&D and QA labs. As products move from the lab onto live networks, our tools then ensure a network's viability throughout deployment and production stages.
Our single system, integrated Voice over IP test test solution, Spirent Abacus, tests scalability, performance, interoperability, and voice quality prior to deployment. Its advanced VoIP performance testing capabilities eliminates the needs for multiple test tools, resulting in reduced costs.
Spirent’s SmartSight™ Diagnostic Solution, comprised of a VoIP Tester, provides operations with expert analysis of hard-to-diagnose IP issues. With IP diagnostic appliances deployed in the network, SmartSight quickly troubleshoots complex IP problems and restores QoS expectations, including those surrounding VoIP and video.
Customers that are using Spirent’s Voice over IP testers include AT&T, CableVision, France Telecom, Korea Telecom, Quintum, Sprint and Verizon.
Accelerate your IP telephony rollout with Spirent’s VoIP Testing solutions.
VoIP Testing
Spirent's Abacus 5000 and Abacus2 Voice over IP testers combine industry-leading performance with unparalleled capacity and density for VoIP testing of next-generation IP network equipment:
- Support SIP, H.323, MGCP, H.248/Megaco, NCS, SIP-T, SIGTRAN (M3UA) on a single card
- Field-upgradeable system grows with your needs
- Real-time protocol decode and voice quality measurements
- Protocol development tools and easy-to-use GUI
Test with real traffic – SIP phones, application servers, conference servers, or announcement servers
- Initiate the call setup or application by sending call setup messages to the server or phone
- Follow the standard protocols for the call setup, H.323, H.248, MGCP or SIP
- Send media in the form of voice, encoded voice, tones, fax or modem
- Measure voice quality with MOS, PSQM, PSQM+, PESQ, PESQ-LQ, R-factor, J-MOS, or packet statistics
Test with signaling only – Proxy servers, media gateway controllers (softswitches), gatekeeper and trunking gateways
- Simulate thousands of phones or gateways sending network registration information, DNS and DHCP requests, and user names and passwords for authentication
- Test the capacity of registration, DNS, DHCP, billing, and authentication servers
- Test trunking signaling with SIP-T, SIGTRAN (M3UA) and IPv6
- The Abacus Event AutoTrack ‘tracks’ the signaling history only on the channels where errors occurred and provides detailed information about failures
Testing VoIP with Abacus 5000
The Abacus 5000 Voice over IP test system provides functional, performance, and interoperability testing of Voice over IP interfaces with SIP, H.323, MGCP, Megaco/H.248 protocols for testing VoIP, PSTN, analog, or converged equipment and networks. Abacus 5000 emulates multiple IP telephones or gateways generating the call signaling and delivering the signaling and/or traffic to a system under test. MOS, PSQM, PSQM+, PESQ, PESQ-LQ, R-factor and J-MOS measurements are made in real time for voice quality analysis. The Abacus 5000 executes endpoint registration requests, which allow measurement of the server’s capacity. Spirent’s Abacus 5000 is a cost-effective, flexible and scalable VoIP test solution, with integrated Analog, TDM and Ethernet interfaces for comprehensive testing of converged or migratory IP Telephony network Elements.
