GNSS R&D TESTING ISSUES

Our focus is on Innovation. We continually push the boundaries to ensure that we meet our customer needs both now and in the future with GPS test simulation systems for R&D applications.

Today, the challenges facing GPS/GNSS R&D teams developing new GPS/GNSS test solutions are immense. In a few years time there will be over 160 GNSS signals available from satellites comprising 4 main constellations—GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and Compass. To ensure design success you need to ensure that:

  • You have the right benchmark test system in place, with Multi-GNSS capability
  • You have a flexible GNSS test platform that can deliver best-in-class performance
  • You can justify your spend on GNSS test equipment and GNSS testing
  • Your GNSS R&D objectives are not compromised through inadequate testing

So how can you ensure that your test platform gives you results that you can trust, with all of the GNSS test features that you need today and ahead into the Multi-GNSS future?

GNSS R&D TESTING SOLUTIONS

Spirent's R&D simulation products can be found in the majority of global test labsSpirent has a wide range of customers that trusts us to provide benchmark systems for GNSS R&D testing. By investing in a Spirent test platform you gain access to an accurate, flexible and repeatable GNSS simulation environment, allowing you to validate your R&D work and to undertake precise performance testing and characterisation. GNSS simulation accelerates time-to-market and decreases cost through reduced project timescales, especially when compared to field testing.

GNSS R&D TESTING BENEFITS

Spirent's industry-leading accuracy and specification enables you to meet your GNSS R&D testing objectives on time, with the best performance, providing results you can trust:

  • Spirent test solutions are in place in the majority of global test labs, ensuring a consistency of test results within the GNSS marketplace and driving standardisation throughout our customer base.
  • A GNSS simulator can repeat exactly the same scenario time-after-time, enabling test results to be accurately compared during the development process.
  • Repeatable GNSS test scenarios can be created to include failure conditions, which may only occur sporadically or randomly in the real world and are impossible to capture with live-sky.
  • Only GNSS simulators can test GNSS constellations which are partially deployed or not yet deployed (e.g. Galileo) and future signals such as L5 and L2C on GPS.
  • GNSS simulators generate data for multiple scenarios and locations, compared to live sky which is a single-scenario single-location solution. For example, a simulator with 10 scenarios and six locations is equivalent to 60 individual live sky tests.

SPIRENT'S VALUE FOR GNSS R&D TESTING

Research and DevelopmentThe Spirent GPS test system provides industry-leading accuracy and specification, enabling R&D objectives to be met on time, cost and quality.

  • Reduced uncertainty of results
  • Improved confidence and understanding
  • Confirmation of performance
  • Significantly reduced time to test therefore time to manufacture
  • Reduced costs through reduced project timescales
  • Portability of GNSS scenarios from R&D downstream to production
  • GNSS simulation certainty versus live sky testing uncertainty
