Service providers are challenged today in providing for the explosion in demand for high-speed data
communications while managing their existing legacy networks. Ethernet networks are fast becoming the primary business service offering for communications service providers—both in the traditional Telco space, as well as, in the growing ranks of the Managed Service Organizations. This growth brings significant challenges for operating and maintaining these leading-edge networks and the services that traverse them. As competition between the various providers intensifies—it is imperative that service assurance organizations are equipped with the appropriate tools to effectively manage their evolving networks.

Spirent’s family of leading-edge robust Service Assurance solutions equips the service provider with a very scalable highly accurate testing and diagnostic solution that addresses all aspects of the Ethernet life cycle, including service activation, service assurance, and performance management—and will ensure the service provider can achieve the following critical value propositions:

  • Service Readiness Testing: Turn up right the first time
  • Rapid Trouble Resolution: Dispatch to fix not find
  • SLA validation & Historical Performance View: Reduce repeats, chronics and SLA violations

The SmartSight Central OSS provides the technician a powerful browser based user interface containing a graphical depiction of the service to be tested. Through an intuitive point and click GUI, users can initiate test accesses at various points on the service allowing for rapid identification of problem areas. Additionally the SmartSight solution makes use of the statistical data available in the Network Element (NE) to provide a comprehensive view of the service as it traverses the network. All testing available through the SmartSight Central Web interface can also be initiated over an XML interface by a service provider’s back office work management systems. This integration enables flow through automated testing to address the service provider’s rising volumes.

  • SmartSight IPMaxIPMax allows service validation testing prior to customer handover, providing quick trouble identification and sectionalization when maintenance is required.
  • SmartSight vScoutvScout provides the critical capabilities to ensure Video services meet or exceed the subscriber’s expectations.

Benefits

Designed to support the latest next generation service offerings, SmartSight Central is built upon Spirent’s years of experience providing Service Assurance solutions to the largest service providers in the world. The core OSS component of Spirent’s family of leading-edge next generation service assurance tools, SmartSight Central not only manages Spirent’s Ethernet QoS Scope and triple play IPMax probes, but also enables back office integration between the service provider’s inventory, fault, trouble ticketing and Performance monitoring systems.

SmartSight Central Benefits

  • Quickly and effectively identify circuit troubles: Reduce Mean Time to Repair, retests, and non-productive field dispatches with SmartSight’s powerful testing suite. The intuitive graphical interface for on-demand testing manages the QoS Scope and IPMax for Ethernet, Video and Voice services. Spirent’s OSS simplifies the complexities of the network and normalizes responses from various network elements allowing for standardization across a multi vendor network.
  • Automated testing through the user interface or open API: Allows for manipulation of the various network element test access functions, setup and execution of tests, access to information from the service carrying network elements and cleanup and teardown of connections when completed.
  • Enable back office integration: Open Northbound XML interface allows straightforward integration into existing OSS of back office solutions. Graphical end to end depiction of services are created from back office circuit database records
  • Effectively manage your testing resources: Administration features supplied by the Spirent test EMS include downloadable firmware updates for the Spirent probes, save and restore local equipment configurations, and reports on test set contention. In addition the system application utility, security features and audit trails allow the administrator the visibility to manage 1000s of network element, circuits and users.
