Landslide is the only test platform that simulates real world traffic models to evaluate wireless core packet data networks.
Landslide provides a comprehensive end-to-end platform that emulates millions of mobile data subscribers, simultaneously accessing the wireless network using various access models. Landslide emulates all of the key wireless core packet data network elements, and combines control plane and data plane simulation. This provides real-world emulation of millions of mobile nodes in various stages of activation, deactivation, and hand-off between cells, all while transmitting and receiving real-world application data.
Landslide is designed to conduct performance and scalability testing for a wide range of wireless technologies and applications including LTE. Landslide tests the core components for each technology in both stand-alone or end-to-end configurations. All protocols are supported on the same platform to give users a single test system for all of their mobility testing needs.

Landslide 7.5
Below is a summary of the new features and enhancements in the Landslide 7.5 release. For additional information, please refer to the Release Notes and the “What’s New” section in the online Help of Landslide.
LTE Phase 4
Landslide continues to enhance its LTE test offering with the fourth release of LTE test software. Phase 4 adds support for expanded call flows, S1 and X2 Handover support for SGW testing, enhanced error reporting, S1 Release procedure, Idle to Active Transitions (UE and network initiated), dedicated bearer activation/deactivation (network initiated), QoS Bearer Modification (network initiated), and HSS initiated default bearer request (from UE side).
Landslide 7.5 also offers a new Functional test option for SGW/PGW testing that allows editing of message headers, IE editing, insertion and deletion, and error insertion capability.
eHRPD Test Application Phase 2
With LTE gaining momentum as the core technology for 4G networks, many CDMA operators are focusing on a migration path to LTE. Enhanced High Rate Packet Data (eHRPD) offers this path. A key advantage to LTE is its support for interworking with non-3GPP networks. eHRPD takes advantage of this by way of the HRPD Serving Gateway (HSGW). The HSGW is the gateway between the CDMA operator network and the LTE packet core by way of the S2a interface.
Landslide 7.5 offers the second phase of support for eHRPD testing with the addition of intra-HSGW mobility testing. This includes support for performance testing, intra-HSGW handover, PMIPv6 (S2a) support into the LTE core, as well as Landslide’s strong data modeling capabilities.
SGSN Node Emulation
Landslide’s long standing UMTS/GPRS testing support for SGSNs and GGSNs is now enhanced by the ability to emulate a stand-alone SGSN as well as a combined SGSN/GGSN. These emulators are ideal for testing of firewalls, DPI boxes and testing of the Iu, Gn and Gi interfaces.
Landslide 7.5 now adds the capability to support a stand-alone SGSN, supporting Iu/Gb, Gn and Gi (combined SGSN/GGSN) interfaces, eliminating the need for a high-cost SGSN. The SGSN Node emulator can be used for testing 2G/3G RANs, firewalls and other devices that communicate over the Gi interface in the case of combined SGSN/GGSN emulation.
Samsung UbiCell Network Testing Phase 2a
Landslide 7.5 continues support for Samsung’s CDMA femtocell implementation known as “UbiCell”. UbiCell is currently the femtocell of choice for several CDMA vendors, and Landslide meets their test needs by offering a Samsung compliant test implementation. Landslide emulates the UbiCells as well as the UEs behind them and supports both emulated voice and data access into the UbiCell core.
Feature Enhancements
The following items represent some of the enhancements that have been made to Landslide 7.5 software. For a complete list, refer to the Landslide 7.5 Release Notes which can be obtained via Spirent’s Support Web Site:
- GbIP Dynamic Configuration Support
- DCCA Test Application and DCCA Server Emulation compliance to RFC 4006 and 3GPP TS 32.299
- PCRF Enhancements
- Support for 2 devices simultaneously
- Test Data File support for configuration
- LTE related enhancements
- AAA Node and Network Host support for EAP-AKA per 3GPP TS 34.108
Additional Analysis of Report Data
The spreadsheet reports generated by the TAS application on the Landslide manager now include a tool bar with various buttons that assist in creating graphs, charts and worksheets with selected measurements for analysis.
Pass/Fail Criteria
The Pass/Fail Criteria feature enables Landslide users to configure various combinations of events, statistics, and comparisons, that when met during a test, will set pass/fail indicators. These indicators can be checked manually or as part of automation to give customers an overall test pass/fail indication without having to do any additional test results analysis. Pass/Fail Criteria should significantly help with test automation.
