LTE Test Leader Applies its Expertise to Suite of Resources for Device Developers
Sunnyvale, Calif.– May 3, 2012 — Spirent Communications, the leader in testing wireless networks, services and devices, today announced that is has applied its LTE and IMS subject matter expertise to publishing a number of resources that detail the complexity of designing, developing and validating IMS/VoLTE-capable devices.
Backed by Spirent’s extensive experience and leadership in testing 4G/LTE devices and networks, these latest resources are part of an overall program to educate and support those who develop IMS/VoLTE-capable user equipment (UE). The first phase of this program was a series of IMS/VoLTE seminars held around the world in early 2012, which were attended by many of the industry’s leading players. The second phase is a newly-published collection of papers and posters providing detailed insights and reference information.
A white paper titled “IMS Architecture: The LTE User Equipment Perspective” provides an overview of IMS architecture and voice services from the viewpoint of an LTE UE. The second paper is a detailed reference guide titled “IMS Procedure and Protocols: The LTE User Equipment Perspective”. This guide presents key IMS protocols, procedures and call flows, with unique insights for UE device developers, including examples of protocol exchanges captured from live network logs. Spirent has also published two posters: one provides an overview of LTE and IMS network architecture, while the other is a detailed IMS/VoLTE reference guide designed with the needs of the UE developer in mind.
“The response to the global series of IMS/VoLTE seminars we held during the first quarter was overwhelming,” said Nigel Wright, vice president of Spirent’s Wireless business. “This reflects the fact that IMS and VoLTE require device developers to understand the core network in more detail than ever before, as well as the new test approaches required to validate their implementation. Spirent is pleased to be able to share its expertise and is dedicated to providing test tools to support device developers as they contribute to the deployment of IMS-enabled services such as VoLTE.”
