Spirent Field Management System for the Tech-X Flex Provides Seamless Back-office Integration, and Visibility Between Any Field Test Set, Technician, and Operations Management

Sunnyvale, Calif. – November 15, 2011 — To better increase the efficiency of field technicians and reduce time spent troubleshooting potential service issues, Spirent Communications has introduced a Field Management System (FMS) application for its Tech-X Flex field test solution. The solutions improves productivity and effectiveness of field technicians and operations personnel by providing each other increase visibility into the automated test results, inventory, and repair management information through a single application. Field technicians can increase installation and maintenance process compliance while storing test results and managing inventory, which is accessible by field and operations personnel throughout the entire operations process.

Spirent’s FMS enables MSOs to better access and store test results, and perform inventory management using Spirent’s Tech-X Flex and other field testers deployed in the field with a “carrier-class” open-architecture. This approach helps to reduce maintenance costs, administrative effort, and the total cost of ownership by enabling the use of the FMS tool across an entire system. Previously, multiple back-office solutions from multiple test vendors were required to achieve this goal, resulting in additional cost, complexity and training challenges.

“MSOs, facing more commercial pressure than ever, have the continued needs to boost the efficiency of their field technicians. This includes reducing repeat dispatches and mean time to repair, or MTTR,” said Sean Yarborough, senior director of business development & strategy at Spirent. “Ensuring field technicians perform required tests before closing out a work order and verifying pre-determined thresholds are met remains critical to operating a successful network. Our FMS helps to gather detailed information from field technicians, providing a consolidated view of compliance and effectiveness. This ultimately allows for the identification of technicians who may require additional training or the need for changes in procedures.”

FMS, which supports gathering and analyzing SLM, DOCSIS 3.0 and other test results, delivers a simple tool for increasing real-time communication with field technicians, as MSOs seek to better understand the progress of their work force in near-real-time scenarios and have the ability to share those results for immediate validation before leaving the job site.
