Spirent Receives Interop Tokyo 2010 Shownet Grand Prix Award

Spirent Successfully Tests 100G Ethernet Links between NTT Communications and Interop Tokyo Shownet
Sunnyvale, Calif. – July 13, 2010 – Spirent Communications announced that its Spirent TestCenter HyperMetrics™ module was used to validate the performance of 100G Ethernet traffic over a 50 kilometer fiber link operated by NTT Communications and the solution was honored with the Best of Interop Grand Prix award for its superior testing capabilities. This latest demonstration further solidifies Spirent’s role as an innovator and leader in high speed Ethernet (HSE) testing.

Spirent’s high performance layer 1-7 test platform was used to transmit and receive 100G traffic at both ends of a link between NTT Communications’ Otemachi and Makuhari Messe sites in Japan. The Spirent TestCenter HyperMetrics test module was also used to test packet loss and errors across the connection, verify transfer rates and measure latency and jitter. Toyo Corporation, Spirent’s exclusive channel partner in Japan, set up and operated the Spirent TestCenter equipment for this test.
Spirent TestCenter HyperMetrics delivers the highest return on investment and lowest total cost of ownership of test equipment. With the lowest price per port, this solution offers accurate performance along with application realism testing across all layers allowing test engineers to gain more test ports for the same available budget as many 10G products.
Spirent TestCenter was equipped with IEEE 802.3ba 100GBASE-LR4 CFP transceivers developed and produced by Opnext Japan for this interoperability test, and was used to achieve error free 100G transmission. This test also verified interoperability between Spirent TestCenter, Infinera, and Opnext.
