Spirent Avalanche Virtual, Best of Interop 2010 Finalist, Measures Impact of Cloud-based Applications on User Quality of Experience in Public, Private and Hybrid Cloud Architectures

Sunnyvale, Calif. - (April 21, 2010) – Today’s CIOs and IT managers lack a methodology that measures the quality and reliability of a cloud infrastructure. To address that requirement, Spirent Communications today introduced Spirent Avalanche Virtual, the first solution to test the performance, availability, security and scale of virtualized network appliances as well as cloud-based applications across public, private and hybrid cloud environments.

While cloud computing and virtualization offer the promise of doing business in a more cost-effective and efficient manner, organizations remain concerned about the uncertainty of this environment and its impact on user quality of experience. With Spirent Avalanche Virtual, a Best of Interop 2010 Finalist, enterprises and cloud service providers can validate whether a cloud computing architecture is delivering on the promised security, functionality, performance and interoperability of virtualized content-aware appliances and related applications.

“Spirent Avalanche Virtual allows testing of individual devices, applications and services in the cloud, an approach which wasn’t previously possible with traditional test tools,” said Jeff Schmitz, vice president at Spirent. “This tool allows network managers to ensure their cloud platform is delivering the business benefits of elastic computing without degrading user experience.”

This solution extends the performance capability of Spirent Avalanche hardware into a software form-factor allowing for the verification of the robustness of virtual IPsec, IDS, IPS and other security solutions as well as the identification of failure points of software-based content delivery mechanisms. Users can determine the impact of the cloud on application user responsive and availability while validating the performance and capacities of virtualized networking appliances through the use of real-world emulated users as well as business traffic and transactions.

Unlike other solutions, Spirent Avalanche Virtual delivers the same real-world testing capabilities in the cloud as in traditional network and provides the most realistic performance and security stresses in a private, public and hybrid cloud environments. Furthermore, it is independent from any specific test hardware yet still has the ability to scale to millions of emulated real-world subscriber traffic.
